Unlock and remove the battery.

Well, I’m ordering the T420 with stock RAM and upgrading myself. Problem is I don’t know which type to get? There’s different speeds and different pins like 200-pin. I just don’t know which type of RAM is compatible with the T420. Anyone can shed some light on this is greatly appreciated! Compared to the previous-generation PowerEdge T410, the T420 supports up to 33% more processor cores, 50% more DIMM slots, 166% more internal hard drive storage capacity, and the greater I/O bandwidth of PCIe 3.0.
Under the ram cover, you can find two RAM slots.
Remove ten screws from the bottom case.
Flip over your laptop. Lift up the keyboard and disconnect the keyboard cable. You can remove the keyboard.
Remove three screws securing the palm rest.

Pry up and lift the palm rest. Disconnect the touchpad cable from the motherboard.
T420 Ram Upgrade
Remove two screws securing the speaker.
Remove one screw.
Remove the metal plate.
Lenovo T420 Memory Slots
Remove four screws securing the heat sink.
Disconnect cooling fan cable from the motherboard.
Remove the cooling fan.
Clean cooling fan with an air-blowing or hairbrush.
Apply for new glues.
